Rockingham County School Budget Nears Approval

The Rockingham County School Board held a public hearing Monday night to discuss the operating budget. The budget looks at employee benefits and technology needs in area education.

The budget for 2014 through 2015 offers retirement needs and a health insurance increase for employees. It also includes a 2% pay increase and money for digital upgrades for the school system. Coaches have had their stipends frozen for over six years. The board intends to compensate those funds due to them in this new budget. A public hearing tonight showed no public concerns with the budget.

"I think we've been doing a pretty good job with getting the word out about what it is we're hoping to accomplish and many of the constraints and challenges we face, so a lot of our board members speak with the public a lot anyway, so I think there's a level of confidence," says Lowell Fulk, District 2 School Board Chairman.
