The Salvation Army in Harrisonburg is in need of volunteer bell ringers.

They've even had to close locations down this year because they don't have enough people to help raise money for people in need.

Captain Duane Burleigh with Harrisonburg's Salvation Army says the need for volunteers is even greater this year.

He says they raised about 150,000 dollars last year for families in need. He hopes they can raise at least that much again this year, but he expects donations to be low because of the down economy.

Burleigh hopes more good neighbors will step up to help them out.

"Thank you to those who have been out ringing the bell, and we have some that we call and say 'hey we're short a person' and they go out and ring the bell, and that's what makes this Valley what it is. Those who are willing to help others, and we're just looking for a few more," said Burleigh.

All bell ringers are volunteers, so all the money they collect goes to families in need.
