ROCKINGHAM COUNTY -- School administrators had a meeting on school safety Wednesday. They came up with new ways to upgrade not only the security at schools, but also on the buses.

Bryan Huber is in charge of the county school's safety task force. He said after the hostage incident in Alabama that took place on a school bus, he wants to ensure safety on the buses. He presented some new plans on updating the two-way radio system with school buses.

Huber said the schools may add panic buttons on the buses too.

"Our current two-way radio system is over 30 years old, and so there are many routes throughout the county that we have no communication with the driver, so if something were to happen, they're somewhat stranded. So this would upgrade that system," said Huber.

Huber estimated the upgrades for all county buses would cost about $300,000.
