HARRISONBURG -- Weylin Holmes is known as a star athlete and captain of the high school football team, but this week that all changed, after he was arrest for raping a 15-year-old girl. Holmes, an 18-year-old high school senior now faces four felony charges, including two counts of forcible sodomy and one count of rape and abduction.

Police said it happened in the University Fields Complex off Port Republic Road last Saturday night. Investigators said the victim was at an apartment with Holmes when she said Holmes forced her into a bedroom and raped her.

Dr. Scott Kizner, Harrisonburg Schools' superintendent, said this is very disappointing for the community.

"Anytime there's an incident that involves anybody in our community, of course we have great concerns," said Dr. Kizner.

Chris Rush, the Lieutenant for Criminal Investigations at the Harrisonburg Police Department, said this isn't the first time something like this happened in this area.

"And the one very frightening thing as a police department is we're seeing, even though it's off campus it's typically deemed as college housing, we're seeing younger and younger kids, literally kids, 13, 14, 15 years old, being at these weekend parties," said Lt. Rush.

That's why both Lt. Rush and Dr. Kizner want parents to be more aware of what their kids are doing outside of school.

"So I think all of us as parents, when you hear about an incident that impacts, or harms young people, we all pause to see it and reflect as parents, what can we do better to make sure our kids are safe?" said Dr. Kizner.

Police said Holmes and the victim knew each other through school, but they didn't have a relationship before the assault.

If you have any information on this case, call the Harrisonburg Police Department.
