School Safety Poll Shows Parents Less Worried After Sandy Hook

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV)-- Two years after the shootings, the anxiety has gone down a notch. A new Gallup poll shows the number of parents worrying about school safety has fallen to 27 percent. That's down from 32 percent right after Sandy Hook happened.

Those results concern some Valley parents.

"I'm surprised to hear that many people say that it's pre-Sandy Hook levels, this world is full of surprises and I think we need to maintain our sense of security," said George Hamilton, a parent of a Valley student.

As a reminder, Staunton and Waynesboro city schools start Aug. 20.
Rockingham County and Harrisonburg City schools start Aug. 19. Augusta County schools start Aug. 18.
