Search Continues for Suspect in Store Shooting

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office is working to track down the suspect in Saturday's shooting and surveillance footage may be the key.

Zach Bobich owns Zach's Country Store in Mount Solon and before he owned the store, there was no security system in place and there were several break-ins; however, he now has a camera and an alarm system.

"Definitely rely on customers in the community. You know the good thing about here is our neighbors are close and they keep an eye out on the place," said Bobich.

Even with good neighbors, Brant Weller, who works at Hawk Security Systems, said rural stores can be targets for break-ins.

"Most of the time I think people looking to steal don't pick larger commercial establishments because they know there's going to be security there, whereas smaller commercial or small businesses often those folks don't have security," said Weller.

Hawk Security Systems worked with the sheriff's office to pull this image of the suspect.

"We are working on trying to enhance that to get the quality a little bit better," said Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson.

"Cameras are great for letting you know what's going on, they're not going to make sirens go off, they're not going to make anybody run away. But after the fact they're great for going back and figuring out what happened and hopefully who did," said Weller.

As deputies work to piece together the homicide investigation, part of the evidence they're really looking at relies on cameras.

"It's shocking, it's devastating to the community for sure, and that's all the more reason why our focus is on bringing that person in," said Hutcheson.

Jae Young Kim, the owner of the Dry River Store, is in critical condition at U Va. Medical Center.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Crime Solvers hotline at 574-5050 or the RCSO at 564-3800.
