Search Warrants Challenged in Va Missing Teen Case

LOVINGSTON, Va. (AP) -- An attorney for a man charged with first-degree murder in the case of a missing Nelson County teenager is asking a judge to suppress search warrants.

Forty-eight-year-old Randy Allen Taylor of Lovingston faces a May 1 trial in the disappearance of 17-year-old Alexis Murphy last August.

Defense attorney Michael Hallahan says in court papers that there was no valid constitutional basis for the search warrants, which have remained under seal. He also claims certain statements by Taylor were illegally obtained.

Nelson County Commonwealth's Attorney Anthony Martin responded that the defense has not met its burden of proof, and that officers acted in good faith.
