Harrisonburg, Va. (WHSV) A shelter in our area is looking to spread some holiday cheer to homeless families in need.

The Salvation Army in Harrisonburg is filled to capacity and has been since last month.

In order to make the homeless feel more at home, the shelter plans on passing out surprises to each person staying in the shelter on Wednesday.

"We have tried to make it as 'Christmas-y' as possible for those that are in our shelter. Each of them will receive a Christmas package Christmas morning. The children will be receiving a Christmas package Christmas morning. They will have a Christmas meal at our shelter," said Captain Duane Burleigh, with the Harrisonburg Salvation Army.
