ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va –-- The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said they believe all three graffiti crimes committed in the area last weekend are related.

We brought you the story last week when three buildings were tagged on three consecutive nights, including two religious buildings and a school.

Sheriff's deputies found graffiti on Spotswood High School last Wednesday night. Then a mosque in Harrisonburg was targeted with hateful words and pictures the next night. On Friday night, deputies found similar drawings on a Christian school as well. The sheriff's office had these markings removed over the weekend.

Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson said they do have new leads but they are still working hard to find out who is behind the hate crime. He said they think all three situations are linked because there are similarities in the graffiti content.

Hutcheson said the vandalism is a serious crime, and they will continue to look at evidence to figure out who is responsible.

"If you're sorry about it, well now's the time to be sorry,” said Hutcheson. “You know when we go to court we always hear 'Well, I'm sorry I did it.' Well nobody's sorry when we're looking for them. And that's the thing about it, so anybody who might know who did it, we encourage them to give us a call."
