The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office is conducting a death investigation since Tuesday night.
Rockingham County Sheriff Bryan Hutcheson said a farmer found a dead body on his field on the 1600 block of North Valley Pike, near the North Main Storage.
The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office and Harrisonburg police responded to the call at around 5:30 p.m.
Hutcheson said they have identified the victim, but are not releasing his name until next of kin is notified.
He said it's a man in his mid-forties. He is not from Harrisonburg or Rockingham County.
Hutcheson also said he doesn't know how long the body had been there. He says the cause of the death is still unknown.
The sheriff said they don't suspect the situation to be related to a crime, but they are not ruling it out until they are done with the investigation.
Hutcheson said the public is not in danger.
