Sheriffs Office Investigating a Murder in Fort Defiance

FORT DEFIANCE, Va. UPDATE: 08/16/2014 4:40 p.m.
Multiple sources including witnesses at the scene of the shooting and tweets on Twitter are telling WHSV that the victim's first name was Cole.

They also say the incident took place around the time of a birthday party. We're working to confirm more details.


The Augusta County Sheriffs office is investigating a murder in Fort Defiance.

Deputies were dispatched to the 2000 block of Knightly Mill Rd, Fort Defiance, for the report of a shooting.

Upon arrival, deputies discovered the victim, a 22 year old man, had been shot. They also determined he was transported to Augusta Health by a third party.

The victim arrived at the ER with a gun shot wound where he was pronounced dead.

WIthin hours, a suspect was identified and taken into custody without incident.

Michael T. Williams, 20, has been charged with 1st degree murder and the use of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is being held at the MRRJ.

The investigation is ongoing. Additional charges are expected.
