Shopping Local for Christmas

HARRISONBURG, Va. As Christmas approaches, many customers are choosing to shop locally this year.

Sara Christensen, the owner of The Lady Jane Shop in Downtown Harrisonburg, said the three weeks leading up to Christmas are typically their busiest time of the year.

In fact, she usually sees about three times as many shoppers.

Christensen said, even with the fewer shopping days, this year was no different.

There has been the same amount of foot traffic coming through her store this year, as in years past.

The major difference is, the shopping has been more spread out.

"I think it is a huge difference. You know, people are spending [money] with intention and are budgeting out gifts, and money they want to spend on specific people. You know, there is a reason to go shopping," said Christensen.

She said, the revitalization of Downtown Harrisonburg has also had a positive impact on the foot traffic coming through her store.
