A supervisor at Red Front Supermarket said business has been better than any other Sunday.
She said most people are shopping for emergency supplies.
With a storm in the forecast, customers are rushing to grocery stores.
Red Front's supervisor said ice and water are the most popular items.
Some shoppers like Connie Dodd said they're getting last minute things to make sure they are ready.
"I come looking for water for the storm," Dodd said.
Dodd said water is the last thing she needs in her shopping cart.
"As far as canned goods. I'm prepared for it. I can probably live off six months off my food," she said.
She said she's not stocking up her fridge this time, just in case she loses power.
During June's Derecho, she had to throw away her frozen food.
"You lose a lot when you lose your freezer," she said
Red Front Supervisor Mary Brown said they have seen most people stay away from the cold food section.
Aside from milk, Jeanette Toohey is sticking to canned foods.
"Things that don't need refrigeration," Toohey said.
Carolyn Phillips is shopping for food that won't go to waste.
Her biggest concern during the storm is her elderly parents.
"Water, dry goods, staples so we can have something for them, if we lose power," Phillips said.
Phillips said she looked for a lantern at another store but there were sold out.
"They were really low on batteries, handheld flashlights and things like that so I know a lot of people are picking things pretty quickly today," Phillips said.
Red Front supervisor said they've already ran out of lamp oil. As far as flashlights, they have a few them but they're the small portable ones.
Phillips said with her last minute shopping, she's now ready.
"I'm prepared, as long as it just only for four or five days," Phillips said.
Red Front supervisor said they are expecting a cold food truck on Monday.
But most non-perishable items will come on Tuesday.
She said getting more shipments depends on the storm's impact in Richmond, where their warehouse is located.
