Should Teachers Be Allowed To Carry Guns?

STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV)-- The gun debate has led to people questioning whether or not guns should be allowed in the classroom...on teachers.

Across 18 states, firearms are already allowed to be carried by adults on school grounds.

Most recently a bill introduced in Missouri is gaining weight because it will allow specially trained teachers to have a concealed weapon on school grounds. As states join the trend, parents and students here seem divided on the issue.

"Every teacher should, it serves as a deterrent for anyone who thinks that hey can go in there and do what they want," said parent, Connie Mercier, 'a teacher can get mad, upset, snap, I"m totally against it.'

Most schools systems in Virginia have school resource officers for protection.
