BRIERY BRANCH, Va. (WHSV) -- Paperwork isn't the only thing getting backed up due to the government shutdown.
A "closed" sign at the Briery Branch Dam speaks volumes and is bringing new urgency for leaders to reach a resolution.
The dam an area filled with sounds of nature, but there's one sound that won't be heard for awhile, the sound of a flushing toilet.
That's because the bathroom at the dam has been closed to the public.
The doors have been nailed shut and a sign hung on the door read, "Closed due to a lapse in federal government funding, this facility is closed."
One of the dam's visitors Thursday morning, George Wilson, was not amused that the bathroom building was closed.
"My buddy and I came up here just to look at the lake. I was going to show him one of my best fishing holes because they're supposed to stock some fish here sometime this month. They didn't put anything in. We came over here to the outhouse here and they have it nailed shut. Who knows. When you get out in the mountains and onto federal land, is everything going to be shutdown because of what's going on in Washington?"
