They're known for keeping the beat for the JMU Marching Royal Dukes, but a lewd act has several drummers out of the band.
Six members of the drumline came up with the idea of playing a game that some say went too far and was extremely sexual in nature.
A band member who didn't to reveal his identity says, "the drumline is known for having a crazy reputation."
He says during a bus ride home from a performance at a high school, six drumline members decided to have an indecent sexual contest.
"I guess the only parameters were whoever finished first, won." said the band member.
Several people told band director Scott Rikkers, who then looked into it.
The band member said "that's conduct not befitting the band. Not befitting what it means to be a marching royal duke."
It goes against the band's code of conduct under inappropriate behavior. Rikkers tells News 3 six members violated the honor code.
The anonymous band member said, "it set an example that don't do stuff like this and you're gone."
When asked if he thinks the drumline members should be allowed back, the band member said he didn't know.
Rikkers tells News 3 he is looking into seeing if the six members will be let back in to the band. Judicial Affairs took over the case and has made a decision. No word on what it decided.
No criminal charges have been filed.
