Harrisonburg, Va. (WHSV) -- It is mating season here in the valley for skunks, which could leave your home smelling a little out of the ordinary.

It's all because male skunks spray to get the attention of female skunks.

Right now wildlife services are getting phone calls about trapping skunks and getting rid of the smelly scent they leave behind.

He said you should close openings near the ground level of your home.

"To prevent having an animal living underneath your deck or your out building or your porch, that would be the first thing you'd want to do if you
don't have a problem at this time," said Brian Nelson, who is the owner of Advantage Wildlife Solutions.

Nelson also recommends that you call a professional if you do have a problem with skunks. Things could get messy if you try to handle it alone.
