STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- A small electrical fire closed the Staunton Public Library on Monday.

The fire occurred in a computer room at the library and all patrons and employees were safely evacuated from the building.

According to the city’s fire and rescue department, the fire resulted from a power surge experienced Monday morning in the western part of the city.

Damage to the building appears to be limited to smoke, but city staff will assess the building electrical system to be certain there is no damage to it.

It is anticipated the library will reopen sometime, Tuesday, March 25, but patrons are encouraged to call the library at (540) 332-3902, to obtain further information about the library’s hours.

The library also posted an announcement related to this on it's Facebook page.
