Planed involved in landing

Weyers Cave, VA -- UPDATE 5/24/2014 9:45 p.m.
A small plane has crash landed at Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport in Weyers Cave.

A representative from the airport says it happened Saturday afternoon around 2:30. The small, single engine plane landed without the landing gear down. No one was hurt in the landing. The plane is private.

The plane tipped to its side after skidding about 150 feet at Shenandoah Valley Regional Airport.

The next step for the plane, which is currently locked up, is a possible investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration. Greg Campbell with SHD said they have until Monday to examine the plane.

Virginia State Police already did the initial investigation, and say Myron Rummel of Bridgewater was the pilot. A female passenger was also on board.

One worker said the pilot simply forgot to use his landing gear. Crews removed the plane within two hours of the wreck, which happened at about 2:30 p.m. on Saturday.

Two airport crash trucks and Weyers Cave Fire and Rescue responded, among other crews.

After the initial investigation, crews used the landing gear to help.

"Fortunately no fuel spills, there were no injuries or anything like that, but we train for it on a regular basis," said Campbell.

Airport workers say there aren't any delays for bigger commercial airliners. Crews also checked the runway for debris before leaving.
