Smash and Grab Increase During Holidays

WAYNESBORO -- The holidays may be a time for family and celebration. It is also a time to be alert of car break-ins in the Valley.

Waynesboro Police tell us they've had about 50 reported incidents of smash and grabs.

Crimes of opportunity become more common with holiday shopping. Waynesboro Police suggest putting valuables in the trunk or hiding them, and taking purses where ever you go.

"We're seeing these assailants going through very quickly, opening a car door that may be unlocked where valueables are there, taking all the valuables out, we're seeing iPods, iPads, GPSs, purses, tools,"
said Waynesboro Police Sergeant Brian Edwards.
