HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- A local cat rescue is taking steps to find animals homes before they reach a rescue or a shelter.
Cat's Cradle is working to find cats and dogs new homes using a Facebook page, WOOF + PURR Rehoming Network. Organizers said it's a chance to help ease overcrowding in shelters and rescues.
Matt Chan, the volunteer adoption coordinator at Cat's Cradle, created the Facebook page, to help both pets people cannot keep and strays that are found. Chan said when pets find homes before reaching shelters, there is less of a chance of a backlog, which could lead to euthanization. Locally, he said there is a backlog of animals in the counties.
Chan said so far about six cats have been re-homed thanks to the Facebook page.
"If we want to live in a community where we do not euthanize healthy animals, we need to remember not just one organization and not one person can do it all. But, working together we can save them all," said Chan.
One lady said she received a lot of phone calls after posting a picture of kittens to the page.
Organizers said the more animals are adopted, whether it's through the re-homing network or the shelter, the less likely they are to be put down.
