HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Snow covered roads may have kept some folks from driving Thursday, but piles of snow on the streets are not stopping people from being in downtown Harrisonburg.

The snow forced some businesses like Court Square Coffee to close for the day, but for Midtowne Market, this snow has brought in extra money since it started.

"For us, I mean yesterday was probably the busiest day that we've had in almost a year," said Lauren Penrod, the owner of Midtowne Market.

Penrod said sales doubled on Wednesday and on Thursday, sales were up nearly 25 percent.

At Billy Jack's Wing and Draft Shack, groups of people walked in throughout the day, boosting sales more than 30 percent.

For some customers like Mary Ann Mason, walking is their only option.

"When you have a snow day, you still want to have fun because it is a snow day but it kinda sucks because you cannot drive anywhere to get anything," said Mason.

While some of the sidewalks are now cleared, more people may decide to trek across downtown.
