Some Taxes in Harrisonburg Increasing

HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Tuesday night Harrisonburg City Council approved the budget for the fiscal year ending June 30, 2015.

One increase that has Valley neighbors talking is the hike in real estate and property taxes.

The budget includes an increase in real estate tax rate of 6 cents per $100 in assessed value, as well as an increase of 50 cents in the personal property tax rate and a $10 increase in the motor vehicle fee.

Several Valley neighbors showed up at tonight's meeting to voice their opinion including Laura Logie who says with the increase in her taxes she worries she may not be able to retire.
