HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- James Madison University students are helping the homeless in Harrisonburg find homes. A group of students hosted SpringFest to help Mercy House. Apples to Artists hosted the music festival with the help of Three Brothers Brewing.

The group of James Madison University students has been raising money on their own for Mercy House for eight months. One of the organizers said that they wanted help a group that needs funding.. and also give back to the Harrisonburg community.

"Just giving back to the community in general is great. A lot of times, JMU kind of has a disconnect... We chose Mercy House because it's not something that gets as much help," said Shelly Reed, one of the organizers.

The group hopes to raise about $1,500 for a total of more than $2,500.
