STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- Almost 700,000 people from across Virginia have already signed up for next month's statewide tornado drill.
The Staunton Fire and Rescue Kids' Safety House offers a handy tool to teach kids what to do if a tornado comes.
Perry Weller, Staunton's deputy fire marshal said storm safety isn't just for kids.
"Tornadoes don't just happen in the Midwest. We are prone to tornadoes and tornado-like activity here in Virginia as well. So when the warnings and watches come out, it's particularly important to pay attention to those and take action, just like there is an actual tornado," said Weller.
