Business owners in the west end of Staunton are fired up about nearby vacant properties that they believe have become eye-sores.

They want help from neighbors and the city to make their neighborhoods better.

Nearly a dozen business owners from along West Beverley Street came together to work on a change Monday night.

Many of them want to start an alliance to make their part of town more attractive to visitors.

One way they want to do this is by cleaning up their own properties. But one obstacle they face is dealing with neighboring properties that aren't taken care of.

Owner of Gifts of Distinction Danny Robinson says the city should help their area look nicer like they do in the downtown area of Staunton.

"They seem to get a whole lot of the fixtures and the fixings and the decorations, but this area seems to be left behind a lot," said Robinson. "You know we need to let people know that we shine just as well as they do."

There are 61 businesses in the west end of Staunton.

If you own one of those businesses or would like to help this new alliance make a difference in this area, go to their next meeting at the Salvation Army in Staunton Wednesday night December 12 at 6 PM. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion.
