STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV) -- After an investigation, the Staunton Police Department has decided that the two dogs found hanged by their leashes died accidentally.

The wind blew the cage out of the ground and the dogs got loose, according to police.

Police said a girl from the neighborhood said she found two of the dogs loose, so she hooked them to their leashes and tied them to the cage.

Police also said after another gust of wind, the dogs were somehow hanged.
