Staunton Man Leads Police On High Speed Chase

AUGUSTA COUNTY, Va. -- An Augusta County Sheriff's Deputy stopped 23 year-old Jovan Keys on Parkersburg Turnpike in Staunton.

They say Keys took off while the deputy was checking his license.

Keys was driving a Pontiac Grand-Am.

He ended up hitting a police car at the Terry Court Shopping Center in Staunton during the chase, before it ended on Hewitt Road.

Witnesses say the experience was terrifying.

"I was nervous that somebody was going to get hurt. I was concerned about the people in the parking lot," says Kerri Huffer, who witnessed the chase, "My adrenaline is racing. I feel like I can jump out of my skin. I'm really nervous to get in my car and drive home actually so, yeah, it was scary."

Keys is being held at Middle River Regional Jail without bond.
