STAUNTON -- Teachers in Staunton are unhappy with the school system's new layoff policy after the school board voted earlier this week that factors in addition to seniority should be considered when looking at laying off teachers.
Danielle Christian, the president of the Staunton Education Association, said they do not have a problem with the policy itself, just the way it could be applied.
"For one teacher they may use these guidelines in reference to the policy, and for another teacher they may use this guideline for that teacher," she said. "So it's too subjective. There's no one way that they're going to do it."
Christian says she does not see the policy becoming a problem, hoping layoffs will not be needed.
