STAUNTON, Va. (WHSV)-- Neighbors say Gloria Place is normally quiet. But on Aug.2, they woke up to flashing police lights outside. Now neighbors are forced to come to grips with a stabbing on their street.
According to an affidavit for a search warrant, police found the victim lying on the kitchen floor, bleeding from several stab wounds.
The suspect is 21-year-old Sebastian Underwood. He now faces charges of malicious wounding and attempted first-degree murder.
Neighbors on Gloria Place did not want to go on camera, but say they're shocked at what happened over the weekend, because this is just such a quiet neighborhood.
Many of the neighbors have kids, adding to their concern that something so violent would happen so close.
One of the neighbors knew Underwood, others said he had never even seen him before. They all agree there hasn't been trouble on their street before. But after Aug. 2, a lot has changed.
According to court documents, Underwood told police he 'flipped out and tried to kill' the victim. Police would not confirm whether drugs or alcohol were involved. The victim was taken to the hospital. Underwood was taken to Middle River Regional Jail.
