ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- As temperatures switch from hot to cold in only a matter of days, it can leave some under the weather.

Dr. Ganesh Kini is the medical director at RMH and said the cold temperatures can compromise the body's immune system.

When the temperatures drop drastically within a short amount of time, people typically don't dress for the colder weather which can leave some who are battling smaller infections with a whole lot more to worry about.

"If it's a normal immune system, most people can handle it well. It's people who are susceptible, if they have a mild infection to begin with, like the cold is going around, that makes it worse," said Kini.

A lot of people are starting to feel allergies too.

Kini said that warmer temperatures can bring plants and grasses back to life for a short period of time which can start to irritate people with sensitive immune systems.

Allergies also show similar symptoms as a cold and flu.
