Student Entrepreneur To Start New Business in Waynesboro

WAYNESBORO, Va. -- The Waynesboro Economic Authority and city council will be meeting at 9 a.m. on Friday to talk about new growth.

A new business is coming to the area soon, all thanks to a competition in the city.

As part of the WISE competition, tudents in the area had the chance to submit business ideas.

There are four finalists and the winner will win a grant, along with a place for the business downtown.

Those finalists will be revealing their plans for the first time to the public at the public meeting.

Each finalist has a ten minute presentation and then people with the Economic Authority will take time to pick a winner.

Leaders said there will probably not be anything decided on Friday morning because they want to take time to make the best decision.

According to the Waynesboro city website, there will be a minimum of three awards given out.

The winner selected from the four finalists will win $5,000 plus a space that fits his or her needs.

"Getting an new innovative business downtown is really important part of that process so we're really excited about the prospect of at least one of these business ideas coming to fruition. And starting a new business and new jobs and new businesses in our downtown area, said Director of Economic Development Gregory Hitchin.

There will also be general downtown revilalization updates at the meeting.

Hitchin said they will be looking at plans for the second industrial park to be built.

Members of the economic authority will be talking to an engineering form to finalize the plan so that workers can start building.

The meeting will be at 9 a.m at City Hall in the council chambers in Waynesboro.
