WISE -- Police say Bryant Alexander Hairston reported a gunman on the University of Virginia at Wise campus last Wednesday and then later said his report was a hoax.
Hairston is facing federal charges of knowingly making a false and fraudulent statement.
Hairston told police he saw a gunman near one of the residence halls. Then police officers flooded the campus and began a building-by-building search. Later, Hairston confessed to state troopers that it was all a hoax.
Hairston was a sophomore studying psychology. Now, he likely won't be allowed on campus.
