ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va (WHSV)-- 37 percent of families are struggling to buy school supplies in Rockingham County.
So far, over $8,000 worth of school supplies has been collected at the Harrisonburg Crossings Walmart for the upcoming school year. People who donated say it's important for the community to help kids who are less fortunate.
"I think it's awful that there's kids out there that can't afford simple things like notebooks and pencils, I think it's bad, and I think it needs to be fixed and this is one way that we can help fix it,' said Darla Horne, who donated school supplies, 'it's just always important to volunteer and give people things that they necessarily don't have all the time."
Here are the locations and times for Aug. 2 and 3:
You can go to the Wal-Mart in Harrisonburg, Dayton, Staunton, Waynesboro, Luray and Woodstock to donate supplies.
Volunteers will be collecting supplies on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Sunday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
SoLace Studios in Elkton will also be collecting supplies on Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Help us reach our goal this year! 'Stuff the Bus' hopes to get about $150,000 worth of school supplies to help local kids.
