MCGAHEYSVILLE -- Massanutten Resort hosted its Summer Jam. Many bands and vendors were there to celebrate Independance Day. It's also a fundraiser for the local SPCA.
Bands are jamming out to celebrate our nation's birth. Many people may not realize it, but the money to get into the event at Massanutten goes to a cause many people support.
"100% of the proceeds of this summer jam event actually go towards the Rockingham and Harrisonburg SPCA," said Sarah Elson, Director of Business Relations at the Massanutten Resort.
Last year the event raised more than $2,500. Anne Anderson has co-directed the fundraiser for 10 years.
"We love it. It's one of our biggest fund raisers of the year. We so look forward to it every year because it's a fun event and also a very profitable event for the Rockingham and Harrisonburg SPCA," said Anderson.
She said the money raised at the event is important for the non-profit.
"That really goes far for providing vaccinations, medical treatment, antibiotics, food, all the necessary things we need for our animals," said Anderson.
Anderson said the event takes 85 volunteers, all of them putting in time for the SPCA. Anderson said she was worried because of the weather, but Massanutten pre-sold 1,500 tickets.
Massanutten was expecting 3,000 - 4,000 people at the event and they said that's the average turn out.
