Stanley Elementary School Teacher Wins $2,000 in Virginia Lottery

STANLEY, Va. (WHSV)-- More than 800 applications for the Super Teacher Award were received from across the state. Elizabeth Kite, who won the award locally, teaches third graders at Stanley Elementary School.

Along with the award she was given $2,000 from the lottery and $2,000 from "the supply room companies."

Kite was chosen because of her creativity and passion in the classroom.

"I'm still processing it. I can't believe it. There are so many teachers in this whole school and school system that are deserving. I'm flabbergasted," said Kite.

She was nominated by her coworker Tammy Baker. Baker wrote in her nomination essay that Kite inspires the students in a way that makes them want to do their best.
