Survey Suggests Americans Think Sugar More Harmful Than Marijuana

SHENANDOAH VALLEY, Va. - A recent survey by the Wall Street Journal shows that more and more Americans think marijuana is less harmful than sugar.

The survey asked a 1,000 people to rate the most harmful substances to your body between tobacco, alcohol, sugar, and marijuana.

Most people said they think sugar is more harmful to your body than marijuana.

This comes the same week after a statewide conference was held in Richmond where people discussed whether pot should be legalized.

Not everyone in the Valley agreed with the survey.

"No, I think marijuana is probably more harmful," said John Buel.

"I think peoples attitudes are starting to shift, consciousness is changing a little bit and people are starting to think more about what they put in their bodies and what's acceptable and what's maybe healthy," said Kate Hopkins who lives in Staunton.

The survey listed tobacco and alcohol as the most harmful between the options.
