HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV)-- An accused bank robber was arrested earlier this week in New Orleans.

Rosel Guillen-Mendez, of Harrisonburg, had been wanted since he escaped from a juvenile facility in December in Staunton.

Guillen-Mendez is a suspect in several home burglaries in New Orleans in the last two weeks, along with another man, according to New Orleans Police.

Police also said that Guillen-Mendez was found at a homeless encampment where they found several items including cell phones, laptops and car keys.

Lt. Chris Rush with the Harrisonburg Police Department said he would be back in the area to answer to the charges he faces in Harrisonburg.

He was in custody on charges stemming from an armed bank robbery at the BB&T Bank on South High Street in Harrisonburg in July 2013 before escaping.

Surveillance footage showed a masked man robbing the place and after an investigation, Harrisonburg police arrested Guillen-Mendez for the robbery.

He is charged with felony robbery, felony use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, felony entering a bank to commit larceny and felony wearing a mask in public.

Since he escaped from a juvenile facility in Staunton, he was linked to car theft in the Valley and many more crimes in Alabama.

Guillen-Mendez is also facing charges from the FBI. is happy to provide a forum for commenting and discussion. Please respect and abide by the house rules:
