Taste of Downtown in Harrisonburg kicks off Aug. 13, where local restaurants will be highlighted all week as they welcome the community to the downtown area.

There are specials for lunch, dinner and brunch for more than 20 locally-owned downtown restaurants.

At Jack Brown's, there are some combinations where you can get a burger, fries, a deep-fried Oreo and a soda for anywhere from $8 to $10.

Even though not all of the college students are back in the area yet, restaurant owners said they still see a major increase in business this time of year.

Aaron Ludwig, who owns Jack Brown's and Billy Jack's, said he sees around a 20 percent bump in business.

"What we even see some of the restaurants do is they will carry over the Taste of Downtown special even into the following week, just to let some of the other people have a chance that might have missed it during that week," said Ludwig.
