HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- If you owe money and do not file Tuesday, you will be charged a penalty each month.
Many people came to Latino Tax Tuesday in hopes of avoiding any penalties; but one problem that Richard Taveras, the owner, said people run into is not knowing their childrens' social security numbers.
He also said be prepared if you own your own a business.
"Write down your expenses, write down your earnings, write down everything, because sometimes small stuff like, you go to the post office, you spend $3, $2. When you add it up, that's a lot," said Richard Taveras, the owner of Latino Tax.
Taveras did say that a lot of people were good with time management and came in at the beginning of April.
But if you're thinking about running to a post office Tuesday night, you also have the option to file online with the IRS until midnight.
If you don't get your taxes in on time, you will be charged a 5 percent penalty every month until you do; however, if you don't owe the government, you don't have to file Tuesday. You have until October 15 to file electronically.
