Teenage Driver, Passenger Killed in Car Crash in Rockingham County

UPDATE - 11/1/2012:

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. -- Virginia State Police confirm that the 17-year-old driver in the crash has also died. She died Wednesday night at the University of Virginia Medical Center.

Her name is Cyndal Ward. She was from Dayton.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va -- A teenager is dead after a car accident Tuesday afternoon in Rockingham County.

According to Virginia State Police, Jackson Edward Reel died at the scene.

The driver is on life support in critical condition at the University of Virginia. She is 17-years-old.

Reel was riding in the passenger's seat of the car when the driver lost control and crashed into a tree on the passenger's side.

It happened around 12:45 p.m. on Coopers Mountain Road, just west of Clover Hill Road.

The crash is still under investigation, but Virginia State Police say speed was a factor.

Virginia State Police were assisted by Clover Hill Fire and Rescue and the Rockingham Sheriff's office.
