According to the Rockingham County Sheriff's Office someone has been breaking into churches and either stealing items or damaging the property.
The cost of the damages range from $100 to $5,000
Rodney Burkholder has been working at the Weaver Mennonite church for forty years.
"We have never had this type of problem that I remember," Burkholder said.
Two weeks ago, his pastor realized someone got into the office overnight.
"He noticed that oh my the glass has been knocked down and immediately he realized there was a large problem, " Burkholder said.
The Rockingham County Sheriff's Office said nine other churches in the area had the same problem since Oct. 8.
The Sheriff's Office said the breaking and entering incidents have been happening overnight.
Burkholder said they stole a small computer, cameras, a coffee machine and a small iPod.
He said they can replace $4,000 worth of things but they're worried it keeps happening.
"It wasn't that big of a deal more than is a pattern that alarms us as well as others," Burkholder said.
For East Point United Methodist Church Pastor Carrie Talbott every penny counts.
Someone broke into her church on Sunday, stealing some food and donations.
She said it was about a $100 worth.
"It's a small country church and we work very hard at keeping the ministries that we have," Talbott said.
She said the stolen food, feeds those in need and now more will need help.
"Harming us was not as much as a grief as the fact of what they took means that we won't be able to entirely fulfill the needs of others."
The Sheriff's Office said they don't think this is related to the graffiti investigation.
But they're not ruling out the possibility.
