HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- The Affordable Care Act could play a big role in how file your taxes.

Almost everyone must have health insurance or face penalties on next year's tax return.

Tax preparer Judith Preston said that before doing your taxes you should see if you are eligible for credits.

Those credits could mean lower premiums when signing up for health insurance this year.

"You can apply to have the credit that you are entitled to in advance. So what that will do, the government will pay the premium or the part of the premium of that the credit directly to the insurance company," said Preston.

If you have any questions about qualifying for these credits contact a tax professional.
