ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va. (WHSV) -- Issac Alderfer of J. Frank Hillyard Middle School, Liam Craddock of Montevideo Middle School, and Nick Stockton of Wilbur S. Pence Middle School have all qualified for the State Geography Bee sponsored by the Virginia Geographic Alliance.

These students won the local bee held at their home school and then took a qualifying test in which the top 100 scorers were invited to compete at the state level by the National Geographic Society.

Students will complete in closed preliminary rounds in order to narrow the field to 10 contestants.

The final round is free, open to the public, and will be held in Longwood University’s Jarman Auditorium at 1:00 PM.

The state winner will receive $100, the "Complete National Geographic on DVD," and a trip to Washington, D.C. to represent Virginia in the National Geographic Bee finals to be held at National Geographic Society headquarters, May 19-21, 2014.
