HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- The time change make have taken an hour of sleep from you Sunday, but Monday, it tired out emergency responders.

Harrisonburg and Rockingham County ECC have reported multiple false fire alarms Monday.

Brant Weller, who works at Hawk Security Systems in Harrisonburg, said a lot of his customers have an alarm system that they set to automatically arm and disarm at certain times.

This is common procedure for businesses; however, a normal household wouldn't need to do that, according to Weller.

He said the increase in false alarms could be due to the time change.

"The older systems didn't know how to account for Daylight Saving Time. The system may have armed and the employees arrived at a different time when the alarmed should have been disarmed, maybe set it off," said Weller.

Weller said that newer systems account for Daylight Saving Time so it would be mostly people with older models that had this problem.
