WAYNESBORO, Va. (WHSV)-- The request came from the Parks and Recreation department for the 'Tour de Valley Century and Metric Century' bike tour.

The council voted four to zero to allow the sale of beer near Ridgeview park and the War Memorial Pool during the event.

It's an idea leaving some in the area with mixed feelings on how people may act around the park during the event.

"I just really think people have to be responsible for themselves and the city needs to think about what they're starting, whether it's this event or another event, whether this is going to continue on," said Dana Weller, who goes to Ridgeview Park.

In an e-mail, the former director of Waynesboro Parks and Recreation says, "In recent years the recreation department has brought alcohol into this city's parks for a number of events. It is shocking to me that city management and council approve of these activities."
