HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) People are a little bit more aware of what to do in case their is a tornado after a state-wide drill just before 10 a.m. Tuesday.

W.H. Keister Elementary School in Harrisonburg was just one location where the drill happened.

Students were told to stay away from glass and windows and take shelter in the hallway.

Principal Anne Lintner said it's good for the children to know what to do and repeat the drill so that it becomes second-nature to them.

"Most people don't do well with uncertainty. So its important for them to know what to do and have practiced it enough to be comfortable with it in-case there really was a reason to use it," said Lintner.

Over the last three years, 67 tornadoes have struck Virginia.
