ROCKINGHAM COUNTY, Va -- The fatal tractor trailer crash victim was named La-Thon Ware.
The crash happened on Interstate-81 near Exit 256 in Rockingham County. State police said According to Virginia State Police, a flatbed tractor trailer ran off the road into the median. The driver, Terry Johnson, said he lost control.
Ware, who was driving a 2005 Dodge Caravan, crashed into the rear end of the tractor trailer, which was still in the left traveling lane.
Ware then crashed into another moving tractor trailer and bounced into the median.
He died at the scene. State Police believe Ware was on his way to work at the time.
Terry Johnson, the truck driver, is charged with reckless driving.
Ware leaves behind his wife and two children.
He was very active in a Christian rock band called “Broken Pieces.” The band has played at several different churches in the Valley.
Virginia State Police said the tractor trailer driver was falling asleep at the wheel, and that is what started the accident.
