HARRISONBURG, Va. (WHSV) -- Those of you traveling are hoping there won't be much traffic during the next few days and that's VDOT's hope as well.
While the roads may be busy, according to Ken Slack, a spokesman for VDOT, there haven't been any major congestion issues on Interstate 81.
If you're traveling Tuesday night, Slack recommends using Virginia 511, which has a phone app that passengers can use to check for any delays.
VDOT safety service patrols will be on both I-64 and I-81 throughout the holidays.
The patrols watch for disabled vehicles and their goal is to keep traffic moving.
Slack said you may not have to worry too much about huge delays because VDOT has temporarily suspended work zone lane closures.
"Christmas and New Year's time is spread out over many more days, you know not everybody is traveling on the same day. So although you might find some heavier traffic, it's not going to be as congested as we sometimes see on Thanksgiving weekend for example," said Ken Slack, a spokesman for VDOT.
