Train Hits Pickup Truck in Grottoes

GROTTOES, Va. (WHSV)-- A train hit a pickup truck on Thursday morning, ripping the bed of the truck off of it. No one was seriously hurt, according to Grottoes Police.

The pickup truck driver said he didn't hear or see a train coming and tried to cross the tracks, even though the barrier crossings were down, police said. The train hit his pickup truck, and sent the truck into another car. No one was hurt in the other car.

Dwight Miller, 49, of Grottoes was identified as the pickup truck driver. He was taken to Sentara RMH with non-life threatening injuries.

The train was not seriously damaged, but it did block the intersection of 3rd street and Route 340 for over an hour.
